The original creation of two sisters from India, Amelia's is a true American success story. In 1990, Price Family hoped to bring the tastes and cultures from their homeland to their new home in the Pleasanton Area of California. Back then, there wasn't the great eastern Indian population there is today, so the gals weren't sure how their new cuisine styles would be accepted.
So they planned to start with the great American Sandwich and only add hints of their native cuisine. They started with Fresh baked Breads and brought the taste of Indian Chutnies and Herb spreads to the Sandwiches. In a few months locals really responded to these new flavors. Their original chutnies and spreads are what make Amelia's Sandwiches legendary in the community today. Soon Traditional Indian Dishes Like Tandoori Chicken and Curried Turkey were added and their success grew even Larger.
The entire Tri-Valley fell in love with the melding of eastern Indian & American Cuisine. A clammering for the Sister’s Food came from local businesses and a thriving Catering Business was born. Today you can get the Famous Sandwiches, Hot and Cold Breakfast or Hot Lunches and Dinners delivereed right to your home, office or event location.
In May 2007, The sisters decided it was time to fully enjoy the fruits of their hard work and moved away from the business. Annabelle retired to India to be closer to her family and Jeanette married and moved to Houston Texas. The new owners, Gita & Vinit Patel, carry on the Indian-American tradition and have many great plans to expand the legend of Amelia's with new menus, continued fabulous service and of course, the fabulous food.
They moved the restaurant downtown in October of 2007 to become part of the dynamic history of Pleasanton that Amelia's help build. And...who is Amelia? Our namesake was the sister’s beloved Grandmother whom they honored through the naming of the Restaurant. We hope to continue to make her proud...where ever she may be!
